AND APPROACH
ABOUT
THE PERSON BEHIND ACE YOUR A LEVEL CHEMISTRY
Chemistry. Nutrition. Education. Yoga.
One unusual combination.
My approach to education has developed through more than 15 years of teaching, supported by an academic and professional background spanning Chemistry, Nutrition, scientific research, education and Yoga.
I have always been fascinated by how things work.
First at the molecular level.
Then through Nutrition and human health.
And ultimately through the question that sits at the heart of my work today:
How can we help people learn, perform and thrive at their best?
MY ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
MChem (Hons) CHEMISTRY
First Class · 86% · 1st in Class
The University of Manchester
I graduated with a First Class MChem in Chemistry with Industrial Experience, achieving 86% and first place in my class.
Across the Chemistry degree, I achieved more than 90% in Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry modules during Years 1–4. My degree provided a rigorous foundation across the major areas of Chemistry, alongside practical laboratory and industrial experience.
MSc NUTRITION
Distinction · 1st in Class
King's College London
Following Chemistry, I completed an MSc in Nutrition at King's College London, graduating with Distinction and first place in my class. My work developed my understanding of the relationship between diet, health and human physiology, while strengthening my ability to interpret scientific evidence and communicate it clearly.
This eventually became another important part of my teaching philosophy.
The student is not simply a brain sitting at a desk.
Learning happens within a whole person.
MPhil RESEARCH
DIETARY FIBRE, STARCH DIGESTIBILITY & NUTRITION
Biopolymers Group, Faculty of Life Sciences, King's College London
I also undertook part-time MPhil research investigating the role of non-starch plant polysaccharides — dietary fibre — and the mechanisms through which they alter starch digestibility.
This brought together Chemistry, Biology and Nutrition at a research level.
12 ACADEMIC AWARDS
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE HAS BEEN A CONSISTENT THEME.
Across my Chemistry and Nutrition studies, I received twelve awards and scholarships recognising academic and professional achievement.
These included:
UNIVERSITY OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Recognising students within the top 0.5% of the University.
JOHN YUDKIN PRIZE
For the highest-achieving student on the MSc Nutrition course.
ROGER GRICE MEMORIAL PRIZE
For the best Chemist in fourth year.
SOCIETY OF CHEMICAL INDUSTRY PRIZE
For the best industrial experience student.
KELLOGG'S PRIZE
For the best project by a student on the MSc Nutrition course.
GLAXOSMITHKLINE REWARD & RECOGNITION AWARD
Recognising achievement during industrial Chemistry experience.
DEPARTMENTAL PRIZE
For the best Chemist in second year.
GLAXOSMITHKLINE ORGANIC CHEMISTRY BURSARY
Awarded during my Chemistry studies.
WOODWIS SCHOLARSHIP
For the best Chemist in first year.
ALAN THOMPSON AWARD
For the best Inorganic Chemist in first year.
I was also selected to present a scientific poster at SET for BRITAIN and received a Royal Society of Chemistry competitive travel grant.
FROM THE LABORATORY TO THE CLASSROOM
GLAXOSMITHKLINE
Industrial Placement Chemist
My industrial Chemistry experience included work within Neurosciences and Immuno-Inflammation research environments.
I researched, optimised and performed synthetic Organic Chemistry reactions to deliver molecules of interest.
I also gained experience with analytical and spectroscopic techniques including:
GC-MS
LC-MS
Mass spectrometry
IR
NMR
This experience gave me a practical understanding of Chemistry beyond the textbook.
REGULATORY SCIENCE
INNOSPEC
Regulatory Safety Officer
I also worked as a Regulatory Safety Officer, preparing safety data sheets and labels for products involved in the transport of dangerous goods and working with European regulatory requirements.
I prepared reports and presentations and worked across departments to streamline regulatory processes.
This developed another skill that is particularly valuable in teaching:
Taking complex technical information and communicating it clearly.
BRITISH NUTRITION FOUNDATION
SCIENCE COMMUNICATION
I undertook a research internship with the British Nutrition Foundation within its Science Communication team.
My work involved:
Reviewing scientific evidence
Summarising research
Translating complex findings
Communicating Nutrition science
Making evidence accessible to the public
This experience reinforced something that has become central to my teaching:
**Knowing something isn't enough.
You also need to be able to explain it.**
15+ YEARS OF TEACHING
PRIVATE EDUCATION
Since 2011, I have worked privately with students in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Nutrition and related subjects.
I have taught:
A-Level Chemistry
A-Level Biology
GCSE Chemistry
Biochemistry
Nutrition
Undergraduate-level scientific material
Alongside subject teaching, I have helped students develop:
Revision strategies
Examination technique
Study systems
Confidence
Independent learning
Mindset
Organisation
This long-term experience has shaped the approach behind Ace Your A Level Chemistry.
YOGA, MEDITATION & MINDFULNESS
ANOTHER DIMENSION TO LEARNING
In 2017, I completed Yoga Teacher Training in India.
Since then, I have continued to develop my experience in:
Yoga
Breathing
Meditation
Mindfulness
Gentle movement
I have also delivered Yoga therapy and meditation workshops for the NHS at Colchester Hospital.
These experiences have influenced how I think about academic performance.
A student doesn't leave their emotions, body or nervous system at the door when they sit down to study.
WHY CHEMISTRY + NUTRITION + YOGA?
At first glance, these may seem like completely different disciplines.
To me, they are connected.
Chemistry helps us understand the molecular world.
Nutrition helps us understand the relationship between food, physiology and health.
Yoga and mindfulness provide practical tools for movement, breathing and awareness.
Education brings everything together.
How do we understand?
How do we learn?
How do we perform?
How do we stay well while doing it?
That is the philosophy behind my work.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE WITH A HUMAN APPROACH
My qualifications provide the scientific foundation.
My professional experience provides real-world context.
My teaching experience provides the educational expertise.
My Nutrition background provides another perspective on health and performance.
My Yoga training provides practical tools for wellbeing.
But ultimately, the most important part of my work is the relationship with the student. I provide engaging, educational experiences in an atmosphere of love and laughter. Learning should be fun.
READY TO WORK TOGETHER?
I work with a limited number of students so that each receives a genuinely personal service.
